Classic Series #2

The series between the Yanks and Sox this weekend will most likely not be as exciting. The Yanks have won enough and Sox have not done their part. So even with a sweep, unlikely, the Yanks are still in first place. So even as a Sox fan, I have to admit the chances of the Sox catching the Yankees are slim. It could happen but I wouldn't hold my breath on it.

On the flip side, none of the Western teams have done their part either. No one looks like they want to win. The Angels had a great opportunity to gain a couple of games on the Sox but they have been miserable. From my vantage point, it looks like Yanks, Sox, Twins and probably the A's for the American league playoffs. With 6 and 1/2 separating the Sox from the Angels and if the Sox by some miracle catch the Yanks there are not enough games left for the Angels to catch a wild card Yankee team. It is impossible for the Devil Rays to lose that much, never mind the Yankees.

But back to the Boston/ New York series. My prediction: Red Sox win 2 of 3. They will gain a game but it won't matter much beyond pride. Especially with 4 more games against Baltimore who are playing good ball. A sweep against them is unlikely at best.

So bring on the Yanks, even though the playoffs are for all intents and purposes set in the American league. With the notable exception of the representative from the West.

Football notes: The Saints are going to do what they do every year: Look great on paper
and not on the field. A terrible injury to Duece won't help matters.

The Patriots on the other hand are closing in on the historic 19 game winning
streak. The two teams in the way, Detroit and Miami. I like their chances.
