Adventure Gamebooks as RPGs

Since the 1980s a number of publishers have produced Adventure Gamebooks. These are books that combine interactive narrative adventures where readers get to choose how the protagonist behaves with rules mechanics similar to those of adventure role playing games. The articles linked on this page are discussions of how specific gamebooks would fare if their mechanics were used as the basis for a complete table top role playing game. The articles feature only a minimum of house rule extensions over the rules in the books themselves as the purpose of the series of articles is to examine the robustness of the rules set as presented in the gamebook.

The question being asked is, "are the rules in this gamebook sufficient to run a role playing game with friends?"

There are some fun gamebooks out there that wouldn't make for good games, and there are some less than stellar gamebooks that would make for grand games.
