I was hoping you'd add some commentary here and now I've got to see God's Not Dead 3. I do think that there is something quintessentially American to a lot of modern faith based films, and I think that's one of the major changes from the kinds of faith-based films Hollywood used to make. I think a part of that is because they are made specifically for their audience, rather than for the public at large. That can be a profitable strategy, but it also reduces reach.

Did you see The Shack? I really liked that one, and It was made with clear hopes of going mainstream, but the US faith-based audience turned on it because it depicted God as three people, each one representing part of the Trinity, and fundamentalists were outraged because God in human form can ONLY be Jesus and nothing else. And yet...almost the entire movie is a dream, and not to be taken literally! But if even a dream blasphemes against literalness, that's apparently a dealbreaker.

I'll have to watch The Shack. The faith based community reacted poorly to Frailty too. I can only think they didn't watch it to the end, as I said in our video discussion, because it's very clear about righteousness.

It's apparently okay for God to be an actual lion in Narnia, but not a black woman in some dude's dream. I don't wonder why, sadly...
