Fantastic wording, I quite liked both the trailer and this essay. This was really well written, and I quite agree with you about Kull and Red Sonja, and also the feel of Thomas' Conan and that of Howard's.
The put Superboy in a pocket dimension in Crisis. They have tried numerous retcons ranging from “Mordu created us” to Mon El. Now that Clark and Lois have a kid, the new Superboy can lead them but the pocket dimension critique directly references the end of Crisis on Infinite Earths and the evaporation of Superboy from continuity. Since Byrne Superman has never been Superboy.
All of which is to say that Superboy and Superman used to be the same person and that person inspired the Legion, but since Crisis they’ve had a struggle with who actually inspired them and that Gunn’s Superman and feels like the one who was once Superboy.
