As you know, I think some of the push back against Marvel for changing things is sincere, even as it's angry. I've seen enough angry fandom over the years, and write about it frequently here, that I see that as natural. That doesn't mean there aren't grifters taking advantage of that. There are. Outrage and click-bait pay more than in-depth and balanced analysis.

As proof of how bizarre some modern criticism gets, I'm sharing this clip that horror-not-Marvel Joe Russo shared on Twitter where someone slags on Jurassic Park for a single frame.

The outrage industry is going to outrage, but I don't see it as partisan. I see liberals and conservatives outrage people into giving up. That's the lesson I learned from Eye of Argon and other incidents of public fandom criticism. The addition of a money stream has only made things worse.

It's maybe my most gatekeeper-y stance, but if someone's really mad about changes to Slug, I'd love for them to show me they've even heard of the character before.

Regarding Slug, in particular, I imagine that the people most likely to be upset at any changes to the character don't even have Ironheart on their radar.

My problems with Stages 4 and 5 were that they really dropped the ball on the Darkhold and how to incorporate it. This led to them doing Scarlet Witch dirty and including one of the most inconsistent narrative sequences I've ever seen.

Strange: "Wanda. I'm in desperate need of your help against a dimension destroying threat!"

Wanda: "Why do all of you hate me. Why can't you forgive me?"

Strange: "Of course we forgive you. Grief does terrible things. You are the only person who can help me! Let's save the multiverse!"

Wanda: "Erm, actually, I'm the villain and didn't learn anything from my experiences in WandaVision! Moowaaa Haa! Haa! I'm going to go kill the fancast version of Mr. Fantastic now!"

Cue transformation of beautiful orchard into hellscape.
