Geekerati Film Review: In a Lonely Place (1950)
Without Great Writing There are No Good Movies #WGA #SupportTheWriters #UnionStrong
While I don’t mention it during the review of In a Lonely Place, the fact that I am reviewing a film about a screenwriter during a time when many of my friends are out on the picket lines fighting for fair pay in a changing industry has a particular poignancy for me. In a Lonely Place shows a Hollywood that still exists, no longer exists, and maybe never existed at all. It’s a world where a screenwriter is famous enough to be recognized on the street and where an agent fights hard for his client beyond basic contract negotiations.
There’s some great dialog in the film, dialog that comments on the film industry, so I think it’s an appropriate film to watch and review during the WGA strike.
I don’t think this video is perfect by ANY means. It is my first solo video after all, but mistakes aside I’m pretty proud of it and look forward to bringing you more reviews on a host of topics ranging from movies to books to comic books to role playing games.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and I’d be grateful if you’d share, like, and subscribe the video if you are willing.
