More great recommendations! I wish I could love superhero RPGs as much as you do, though.

Wonderful insights into casino culture, as well. I never really thought about the people who spend their time there, but I guess everyone is looking for a little community and friendship.

And those caves look really cool! We don’t have anything like that in the Midwest, unfortunately. Do you find caves like that inspiring as an RPG player?

I wouldn't say I found them inspirational at the moment, but in retrospect yes. Being 100 feet beneath surface of the earth was a combination of comforting and terrifying to me. I felt safe, but I kept wondering what would happen if there was an earthquake.

Afterwards though, I thought about what it would actually be like for adventurers to wander into caves. Take the Caves of Chaos for example. I always played as if my characters could "just see," but having experienced a really dark cave for real that has changed.

Superhero rpgs were the first rpgs where my friends and I actually engaged in "narrative" role playing. Prior to that our games were exercises in tactical (combat) and mental (puzzles) challenges. DMs would give us riddles to solve and we'd work for hours to solve some of them, but role playing in a theatre of the mind style was reserved to in town activities. Dungeons were for combat.

Superhero games changed that for our groups. We started role playing IN combat and it was a big shift. So they hold a special place for me. I get they aren't for everyone, but they were a key milestone for my game play.
