That's right. They promised the film would be serious and "dark" and "edgy." Apparently, what they meant by that is bright and silly.
We should have known when Steven Chow dropped out of the project and was replaced by someone with no Kung Fu that this was coming.

At this point, they might as well have Kato ambush the Green Hornet when he comes home, like the other Cato did to Inspector Clouseau. Although, Seth Rogen being no Peter Sellars, it probably wouldn't approach that galaxy of funny.
I've got to say, though, that I otherwise dig Michel Gondry's scene. He just needs to be paired up with either cardboard boxes and Legos, or a Charlie Kaufman script...
