The New York Times: From Sidelines or in the Rink, Goalies Are Targets, Even at 8

An interesting New York Times article that explores the weird world of hockey goalies. In order to achieve excellence in sport young children are put under enormous pressure to perform. Added to this, goalies, whether the sport is soccer, ice hockey, field hockey, lacrosse, or water polo, face more pressure than their peers.

I would have liked to see this article from the Canadian perspective. I once heard that because of the influence of Patrick Roy and other French Canadian NHL goalies many of the best athlete in Quebec where taking up the pads to the relative detriment of other positions. I wonder if this is true and if in Quebec parents have to be dissuaded from pushing their kids into the goal.
