Superman Movie Update

Ever since talks began about a new Superman movie I have been worried.  Why?  Frankly, I have been wondering why anyone would want to do one in the first place.  The first Richard Donner Superman is, minus a few wonky special effects and Margot Kidder as Lois, a near perfect telling of the Superman story.  I have some minor quibbles, but Donner and company told a compelling story about an alien who lives among, but is not one of, us.  My worries were compounded by thoughts of the Richard Pryor (Superman III) and the Quest for Peace films, discussions with Kevin Smith, and fears that Joel Schumacher would direct it.  Great, I thought, all we need is a Superman who is a lazy smoking video clerk/comic collector and wears a skin tight latex suit with sculpted nipples.  Well, recent times have alleviated my fears.

It appears that Bryan Singer has signed on to direct this, in addition to his upcoming remake of Logan's Run.  I am still worried, after all it has been almost 30 years since the Donner version so they will probably have to retell the origin, but not as worried.  My worries now focus on what story they are going to tell rather than how they are going to tell it.
