I’m not a big fan of professional basketball. I don’t really like the game in the same way I don’t like cricket or bowling. It’s just not right for me. I do, however, have some fond memories of basketball. My mother used to watch the Pistons fairly regularly during the late 80’s, but stopped when the team fell apart and the games were no longer featured on free broadcast. I remember the whole family sitting around and watching double-headers on NBC.
I remember my mother shaking her head and scolding Bill Lambier for some new outrage, as if he was just a rambunctious child who needed to be gently corrected and would eventually shape up and fly right. In my mother’s opinion Lambier was really a good boy who just got a bit too excited sometimes. Isiah Thomas was such a nice man, about whom nobody could say a bad word, and Dennis Rodman was just too quiet and polite. My whole family agreed that Charles Barkley was a clown and my mother would get a dark look on her face at the mention of that nasty, horrible man, Michael Jordan. John Paxson was simply evil. She never liked Reggie Miller much either.
Anyway, I’m jazzed that the Pistons are doing well. I would, of course, be obnoxiously jazzed if it were the Lions winning the championship.
