A religious version of the Onion?

As you can see if you look at the links on this blog, I am a fan of Joe Bob Briggs the former host of Monstervision on TNT. As I was browsing through his website the other day, as I am wont to do, I noticed that among his favorite links was a magazine called "The Door." I'll be completely honest I have known this for some time, but only recently looked at what The Door was. It appears that this magazine is a religious satire magazine written by religious people.

In the most recent issue they have a satire excerpt of a book that is written by "Frank Paretti and Karl Rove" regarding the Bush administration. Frank Paretti, for those of you who don't know, wrote a book called "This Present Darkness." The Paretti book is essentially the kind of schlock that can get published and purchased in certain circles because of it's religious arguments. What has never ceased to amaze me is that the friend who recommended this book to me when I was an undergrad viewed Tolkein and Lewis' fantasy stories as tantamount to devil worship. He was trying to save me from the dangers of "Dungeons and Dragons" and even gave me this wonderful tract to save my soul. Needless to say, his ploy didn't work as I am still an avid role player.

The article is kind of funny if you are familiar with the genre. But then again, I am one of those who prefers to see "Left Behind" in the SciFi/Fantasy section.
